Board of Directors
Greg Hauser – President
Born in Canandaigua, NY, Greg grew up in Rochester. He attended Michigan State and earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Zoology with an undergraduate minor in German. After leaving MSU, Greg moved to NYC to attend the NYU School of Law and has been practicing law here since 1981. Greg has been President of our club since 2001, except for one year when he served as President of the National Board of MSUAA. As devoted a Spartan as you will find, Greg has given much effort to the local alumni club we have today. Greg lives on the Upper West Side, a little over two short blocks from Blondies.
Larry Alterman – Vice President
Born in Manhattan, Larry found his way to the Banks of the Red Cedar and fell in love with Michigan State. He has been active with our club since the early 1990’s and has served as Treasurer, Vice President and President. In 2007, after a 6 year work transfer to Arkansas, Larry moved back into the NY area and is once again Vice President. Larry feels his most important work is raising money for the endowed scholarship fund for MSU students from our area, he recently said, “Everyone should be as lucky as I have been to have the opportunity to receive a Michigan State education.”
Bob Kobel – Secretary
A 1961 Communications graduate, Bob did military service, worked in radio and television broadcasting as well as federal government and private sector media relations. Now retired, Bob has been a board member for about 20 years, serving as our Secretary for the last decade. Bob is a founding member of the Scholarship Committee and also helped develop the Club’s by-laws.
Roni O’Connor – Treasurer
Roni was born in Detroit, grew up in Mount Vernon, NY, and returned to Michigan earning her BA in Elementary Education from Michigan State in 1964, followed by an MS and Professional Diploma in Counselor Education from Fordham University.
Roni worked as an elementary school teacher and guidance counselor and is now retired. Roni has served as Treasurer of our club since 2006 and presently serves as National Alumni Board Vice President. In addition to “all things MSU,” Roni enjoys skiing, gardening, needlework, and being with friends and family. One of her favorite MSU activities is volunteering for Grandparents University. Roni resides with her husband, Michael, in Port Chester, NY.
Jason Slomack – Vice President
Jason grew up in New Jersey before earning his BA from MSU. He later returned to live in New York City where he worked as a designer and art director in the music industry. Now he’s back in New Jersey with his wife and two children. Jason works for D.i.D. in Ft. Washington, PA as an associate creative director. He has served on the Board of Directors since 2009.
Matt Alcorn
Matt graduated from MSU in ’02 with a degree in Accounting. He grew up in Troy, Michigan and has enjoyed living New York since moving here in ’05. He currently resides in the Financial District with his wife Lisa who is also a proud MSU grad.
Since moving to New York, Matt has worked in various positions of finance and accounting for American Express, Citigroup and is presently with Williams Lea, a Business Process Outsourcing firm. In his current role, he works on procurement and supply chain finance to optimize cost savings for his clients.
Matt is a huge Spartan sports fan and can often be found at Mercury Bar cheering on the Spartans, especially on Saturday’s during football season. Going to school during the ‘lean’ years of Bobby Williams tenure thankfully did nothing to discourage his passion for MSU Football.
Matt has been serving on the Board of Michigan State Alumni Club of Greater New York since ’10.
Alicia Bowerman
A native of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, Alicia now finds herself living in Hell’s Kitchen and loving it. She has a love for fashion and creativity. A new passion is distance running. Alicia has served on the board for a couple of years and is our “Young Alumni Representative.” She helps to remind us how important it is to remember what it’s like when Spartans move from East Lansing to NYC.
Brian Catanese
Born on Long Island, Brian grew up in a small town in Western Massachusetts. After attending soccer camps at Michigan State, he knew that East Lansing was the place for him. Brian graduated from MSU in 2001 with a BA in Political Science and received his JD from the MSU College of Law in 2004. Brian and his wife, Katie, met their third year of law school and were married at the Alumni Chapel a year later. As an undergraduate, he represented MSU at model United Nations competitions as a member of the International Relations Organization. Professionally, he has been in private practice for the past eight years as a trial and appellate attorney. He is an avid golfer, skier, and enjoys taking advantage of all the activities NYC has to offer.
Brian and Katie moved to NYC from Grosse Pointe in August of 2011 with their daughter Madeline and two dogs and currently live in Morningside Heights. They can seen regularly, most likely heard, cheering on the football and basketball teams at Blondies.
Denise Dilley
Denise graduated from MSU in 2002 with BAs in Marketing and Spanish, and currently works in non-profit. She also helps plan collaborative activities with other Big Ten alumni groups as part of the Big Apple Big Ten Board. Her Spartan spirit is widely known—she has coworkers who say she talks about MSU football and basketball like she’s “on the team.” Denise has lived in the city since 2003 and loves that it is so vibrant with endless possibilities and all kinds of characters—but getting together to watch games with other alumni is a great way to feel right at home. GO GREEN!
Jason Johnson
Jason was born and raised just outside of Detroit. After receiving his B.A. in History from Michigan State in 2003, Jason made his way to Boston where he earned his J.D. from New England School of Law and his LL.M. in Taxation from Boston University School of Law. While in Boston, Jason met his wife and honorary Spartan, Lindsay.
A job offer to work in a firm’s International Tax Group brought Jason down to live in the New York area. Now, Jason works for a Fortune 500 financial services company as an in-house International Tax Attorney. He lives in Jersey City and in the near future plans to fulfill his childhood dream of living in New York City! Jason is a retired U.S. Marine who in his free time enjoys spending time with his family (wife + pug), studying military history, and shouting “Go Green!” at complete strangers wearing Michigan State gear.
