Recap: 2017 Wine Tasting Dinner
Posted by Britteny Dee | May 14, 2017
About 50 guests gathered in an elegant private room at Gallaghers Steakhouse in Midtown Manhattan for our 19th Annual Wine Tasting and Scholarship Dinner on Friday, May 12.
The diverse group of alumni from NYC and elsewhere throughout the country were welcomed by Greg Hauser, President of the Spartan Alumni Foundation of Greater NYC, and Jason Johnson, President of the MSU Alumni Club of Greater New York.
Throughout the night, guests networked and made new friends while enjoying a delicious four-course dinner that was paired with red and white wine selections courtesy of Charles Krug Winery and former club board member Bill McPharlin Jr., who educated attendees about the history of the winery and the wines served with dinner.
During dinner, guests also heard from three special guests: Scott Westerman, the Associate Vice President of Alumni Relations and Executive Director, MSU Alumni Association, Denise Maybank, the Vice President of Student Affairs and Services, and Sarah Lerche, one of our scholarship recipients from the class of 2017.
The night culminated with an exciting live auction, run by Hauser. Auction items included framed panoramic photos of Spartan Stadium and Breslin Center, a Michigan State wood carving hand-crafted by a Spartan, a dinner-theater package, a seven-night stay at an historic Martha’s Vineyard cottage and more.
Dinner and auction proceeds will support the Greater NY Endowed Scholarship Fund and the Spartan Alumni Foundation of Greater NYC. The fund helps support students like Sarah who are from our area and choose to attend MSU.
