Recap: 2018 MSU Global Day of Service

Posted by Pat Donohue | April 24, 2018

Last Saturday, April 21, 2018, 12 NYC-Area Spartans came together for MSU Global Day of Service. In collaboration with other Big Apple Big Ten alumni we helped GiGi’s Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Center prepare for their annual gala. Volunteers got crafty, helping to make signage and decorations as well as assisted with processing silent auction items. It was a great day of collaboration and being able to see the reach and power of the Spartan network make an impact in our community.

GiGi’s Playhouse NYC is a grass-roots Not-for-Profit that opened in 2012. They provide a place to celebrate a Down syndrome diagnosis and gain the social and academic skills individuals with Down syndrome need in order to reach their potential and make a contribution to this great city. GiGi’s NYC is part of a nationwide network of 38 playhouses that provide educational, therapeutic and recreational programs to individuals with Down syndrome at no cost to families and is the only organization in NYC that serves the Down syndrome community. Their core group of volunteers includes alumni from MSU, U of M, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Maryland.
